Langton Car Bar

The creation of a timber-framed showroom for three luxury cars and an attached clubhouse.

Context

This project is located in a historic Leicestershire village, adjacent to the village pub and in plain view from public areas. This set of circumstances made it crucial to design a structure that was low impact and sympathetic to its surroundings.

In contrast, our client was keen to create a contemporary structure to house 3 luxury cars with an attached viewing room where drinks and snacks could be served following a long road trip.

Design

To meet the client's needs while respecting the structure's historic setting, we settled on a traditional gable-ended design. We gave it a contemporary uplift by adding RAL-coded aluminium roller and bi-fold doors.

The local authority viewed a 3-bay garage as a contentious proposal. To mitigate this, we designed the structure with two extra-wide garage doors and no partitions between the bays. In this way, we created a structure that looked like a 2-bay garage but had capacity for 3 vehicles.
